In the article 'A Conceptual Framework of Self-Advocacy for Students with Disabilities' Test et al, (2005) summarized the definitions and components of self-advocacy found in the literature that was used to develop their conceptual framework, which is intended to serve as a guide for instructional planning, curriculum design, and assessment.
Test et al, (2005) developed a conceptual framework of self-advocacy involving four components: knowledge of self, knowledge of rights, communication, and leadership, based on input from stakeholders and a review of the literature.
